1. Introduction

Thank you for using TeeRead Inc (“TeeRead”, “we”, “us” or “our”). This is the privacy policy (“Policy”) that governs how we use Personal Information (defined below) that we collect, receive and store about you in connection with the use of our website, teeread.com, as well as any other website or mobile application(s) that we may operate (collectively and together with any subdomains and the content and services therein, the “Site”), and the TeeRead automated literacy assessment and reading comprehension platforms (each, a “Service”). The Site and any Service are individually and collectively referred to herein as the “Services”. Certain of our Services are used by children, and section three herein, entitled “Children’s Privacy”, details how we collect, use, and store children’s Personal Information in connection therewith.

We value and respect the privacy of our users, and protecting your information is important to us. This Policy explains how we handle the collection and use of Personal Information that we obtain and the choices that you can make about how Personal Information is used by TeeRead. “Personal Information” means any information that can be used, alone or in combination with other information, to personally identify an individual, including a first and last name, email address, or a personal profile. In some cases, IP addresses may also be considered Personal Information. Certain clauses of this Policy detail specific pieces of Personal Information that may be collected from time to time – for instance, we explicitly set forth each piece of Personal Information that is collected from children – but for easy comprehension and reference, the generic “Personal Information” is used throughout.

Consent and Modification

We encourage you to review this Policy periodically, as your use of our Services constitutes consent to this Policy. We may periodically update this Policy, and any changes will be reflected here. If the changes are significant, we may provide a more prominent notice, and at our discretion may email you directly with information on the same. If you do not agree with the practices described in this Policy, you should not use our Services or otherwise interact with TeeRead.

If you have any questions about this Policy or how we use your Personal Information and similar data, please feel free to contact us at trini@teeread.com.

2. Children’s Privacy

TeeRead’s Services include applications and tools that are meant to facilitate ongoing adolescent education. We do not knowingly collect any Personal Information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent. If we learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with Personal Information absent parental consent, or that such Personal Information has otherwise been inadvertently collected, we will delete it in accordance with applicable law, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

When we do collect Personal Information from a child under the age of 13, we do so with the consent of the child’s parent, guardian, or another person with such authority (collectively, the child’s “Parent”). By consenting to the collection of a child’s Personal Information as a Parent, you:

  • Represent and warrant that you have the legal authority to provide consent for and act on behalf of the child;

  • Authorize TeeRead to use and otherwise process the Personal Information of the child in accordance with this Policy; and

  • Agree to indemnify and hold TeeRead harmless against any misuse of our Services by the child, or any other third party

3. Children’s Personal Information We Collect and How We Collect It

Our Services collect the following Personal Information from children: first and last name; class (including the child’s teacher(s)); school name and location; and audio files to assess the child’s reading fluency and comprehension. Based on this information, we assign unique, alphanumeric codes for each individual child. Except for the individual child codes, which are autogenerated by TeeRead, all Personal Information is collected through the Services, either through direct input by the parent or teacher, or directly from the child, such as the audio files.

We only collect children’s Personal Information as is reasonably necessary to appropriately provide our Services. We only retain children’s Personal Information for as long as is necessary to provide our Services. When it is no longer necessary, such as when the Services are concluded, the Personal Information is deleted.

4. How We Use Children’s Personal Information

We use children’s Personal Information to create individualized reports on reading comprehension and ability. Based on the reports, we recommend a personalized library of books for each child. We do not use children’s Personal Information for any other purpose.

5. Sharing Children’s Personal Information

We share the Personal Information of children that we collect with teachers, parents, schools and school districts, as applicable. We also share it with our third-party service providers as necessary to provide TeeRead and the Services, each as further set forth below.

TeeRead does not make children’s Personal Information publicly available, either directly or by allowing children to do the same.

6. Your Choices & Accuracy of Personal Information We Collect

As a Parent, you always have the right to withhold your consent and prevent TeeRead from collecting Personal Information on or from your child. You may also review what Personal Information we have collected on or from your child at any time upon request. You can instruct TeeRead to delete your child’s Personal Information at any time, or withdraw your previously given consent for the further collection or use of your child’s Personal Information.

Likewise, you always have the choice whether or not to provide any other Personal Information to TeeRead. As indicated above, some of our Services require that you register with TeeRead but doing so is at your discretion. If you choose not to provide required Personal Information, you can still use any portion of our Services that do not require Personal Information.

If you do provide us with Personal Information, we want to make sure it remains accurate and up to date. You can use the tools that we make available through our Services to modify or remove certain information related to your Account. If you need to correct or update any other part(s) of your child’s or your own Personal Information, you can submit a change request directly to TeeRead by emailing us at trini@teeread.com.
